The fifth annual David Iery Foundation Diamond Dinner was a success.
Starting the day off with a trading card show hosted by WinCity Sports Cards, attendees of the event enjoyed perusing the inventories of several vendors throughout the Maysville VFW. Jose Rijo’s autograph signing kept a constant line, while fans received signings and got to speak with the baseball legend as they made their way through the event.
“We’re working with Dave, we put on the show here. All the proceeds from the tables here, we’re donating to the foundation, and our store also bought our own table tonight for the event. Doug Flynn is at our table, we’re very supportive of it.” said Mike Shrout of WinCity Sports Cards.
Donations were made to the foundation by several of the vendor tables, all of which had valuable memorabilia and interesting merchandise to choose from.
David Iery remained in attendance from the beginning of the card show at 9:00 a.m., to the end of the Diamond Dinner at 9:00 p.m. hosting guests and speaking on behalf of his foundation. Throughout the card show, he remained near Rijo, exchanging stories and learning about Rijo’s experiences in the MLB.
The Diamond Dinner went just as well as the card show, with attendees enjoying their meal, speaking with former MLB stars and listening to speeches given by the legends, and Iery himself. A dedication was given to the late Tom Browning at the start of the dinner, with an anecdote from Rijo.
Coach Jason Butler and several of the upperclassmen Royals baseball team were also in attendance, with coach Butler also giving a speech at the event.
Iery was appreciative of all the support given to the foundation throughout both events, and was thankful everyone in attendance enjoyed the experience. The David Iery foundation is looking forward to next year’s Diamond Dinner, and WinCity Sports Cards is excited to make their way back to Maysville sooner rather than later.
