Proceeds of online art auction will go to benefit the Humane Society of Buffalo Trace’s animals.

An online auction benefitting the Buffalo Trace Humane Society is currently underway.

The online auction started on Oct. 11 and will end on Oct. 30. Bidding for each item starts at $2.

Treasurer of the BTHS Rebecca Cartmell said the humane society has a spay/neuter program which much funding goes towards.

Cartmell said the proceeds from the auction will be used for the support and administering of the programs under the umbrella of HSBT.

Cartmell said she hopes the auction does well as there are many animals in the area in need.

“There are many beautiful pieces of art for auction and of various art mediums,” Cartmell said.

There are many paintings, as well as tea sets, ceramic figures, pottery by Rookwood, hand-painted lamps and more, according to Cartmell.

More than 60 pieces of artwork were donated by HSBT member Melinda Fields, she said she needed to clear out her studio and decided to offer the collection to what she believes is a special cause. Greg Howard Auction Service in Frankfort, Kentucky are handling the auction.

Fields is an artist, art educator, collector and restorer, she said she would like the proceeds to go to the medical care and rescue of animals in need.

“I am always interested in animal welfare and this is a way for me to help in Mason County,” Fields said.

One group financially supported by the humane society, Friends of Mason County and Surrounding Counties Animals, is of particular interest to Fields because of the work they do rescuing animals as well as spaying and neutering them.

Fields said she has painted, collected and restored art pieces over the years and some of the art for sale is her own work and others are pieces she restored or collected.

For 25 years Fields taught art in a studio she opened in 1999 called Origins Art Restoration, during her time she helped clients throughout Kentucky and Ohio restore their art pieces and irreplaceable family heirlooms Fields collected items of her own that make up the donated collection.

“There are also some things from a Maysville artist and photographer,” Fields said.

Fields said she has been getting the pieces together for the auction since the beginning of the year for the benefit of the animals the proceeds will be going towards.
