After all the tee shots, irons, putts, birdies, pars, bogeys and beyond…it’s time to name The Ledger Independent All-Area golf team.

The golf season got started in late July and the Mason County Royals started their season off with a bang. The Royals claimed two wins, two seconds, a third and a fifth-place finish in their first six events of the season. Mason Butler broke onto the scene for the Royals, finishing with six top 10’s on the year and placed top 40 in all-state points as a freshman. The Royals also got positive contributions from their five of Evan Schumacher, Kaden Grooms, Logan Shepherd and Spencer Magee.

Another freshman, Lewis County’s Logan Liles continued to make great strides after making the state tournament as an eighth grader, qualifying for the state tournament once again, winning two events and adding five other top 10’s.

The Greyhounds of Manchester claimed their first Southern Hills Athletic Conference title since 1991, led by senior Logan Hayslip, who claimed the individual crown in the SHAC and League Player of the Year as well, the win ended the run for West Union atop of the SHAC leaderboard as the Dragons held the top spot the previous years.

Georgetown claimed the Southern Buckeye Athletic and Academic Conference as they blew away the competition by 56 strokes as Lance Sininger also dominated the competition, winning the SBAAC in resounding fashion and earning SBAAC National Division Golfer of the Year honors.

That’s where Sininger stands out above the rest. The senior averaged a score of 34 per nine holes, tops among players in the area. He finished runner-up at the Southwest District Division III District Tournament at Beavercreek on October 4, qualifying for the state tournament for the first time in his career, where he finished 14th at NorthStar Golf Course in Sunbury, Ohio.

Some other noticeable accomplishments were the Lady Royals golf team compiling a 10-1 record in match play during the season paced by Charity Arn and Haley White, as each qualified for the state tournament with third place finishes at the 8th Region tournament.

Augusta’s Sam Appelman qualified for the All “A” state golf tournament.
