On Tuesday, August 29, area small businesses were celebrated at the Gateway and Buffalo Trace Awards. The event was led by the Morehead State University Small Business Development Center Team.
The second annual SBDC awards hosted nearly 200 guests as they recognized exceptional businesses and individuals in several different categories.
The Emerging Business of the Year award war awarded to Bee Hiving Combly. They are a small family-run and veteran-owned honey production business.
Joshua and Jared Ravenscraft of New Frontier were awarded Retail Business of the Year, Business of the Year and Young Entrepreneurs of the year. New Frontier creates functional and technical apparel.
The Agriculture Business of the Year award was given to Schwartz Meat Company which is based in Flemingsburg. The family has been raising sheep for six generations and now supply locally-raised pork and lamb.
Dr. Tara S. Barnhard of D.C. Kentucky Pain Institute/Spurlock Chiropractic was given the Healthcare Professional of the Year Award. Her team combines chiropractic and medical providers who want to help improve quality of life by helping to control or eliminate pain.
The Service Business of the Year award goes to the Kentucky Welding Institute. Located in Flemingsburg, the institute looks to help students fast-track into the welding industry.
Camargo Transmission Repair, Inc. in Mount Sterling was awarded the Legacy Business of the Year. This fourth-generation business has been in operation since 1918 and is known for its state-of-the-art automotive service and repair facility.
Richard Fuller, Senior Vice President at Traditional Bank in Mount Sterling accepted the award for Lender of the Year.
Lastly, Amy Kennedy of the Buffalo Trace Area Development District accepted the Heavy Hitter Award.
Kennedy said, “I am very humbled and honored to have been nominated then receive the Heavy Hitter Award for the Buffalo Trace and Gateway Regions. I am very blessed to serve a region assisting economic and business development through the many programs Buffalo Trace Area Development District offers. Great things are on the horizon for the Buffalo Trace Region and we look forward to working alongside our elected officials and partners to make that happen. Thank you to all involved in a great evening and awards dinner as well as the privilege to be named the Heavy Hitter.”
