WEST UNION, Ohio | The first of two election filing deadlines is nearing for potential Adams County candidates.

Manchester candidates have the early deadline — under a village ordinance, the filing deadline is May 6 for candidates to petition to run for four-year terms on village council and on the board of public affairs. Four out of the six seats on the village council and one on the board of public affairs are also up for election in this year.

For all other Adams County villages, townships, school board and ESC, the deadline for filing of petitions of candidacy is Aug. 7.

Four of six council seats are up for election for four-year terms in the remaining locations.

Township trustees, village council, board of affairs, school board and educational service center seats are up for election, in addition to tax levies and local options to be on the ballot.

Winchester board of public affairs has one member up for election for a four-year term.

Both school districts have three members up for election on each school board.

The District 8 representative to the Southern Ohio Educational Service Center also has a four-year seat opening up.

All petitions are reviewed by the Adams County Board of Elections to determine if they are correctly filled out and if the petition contains enough qualified signatures, election officials said.
