GEORGETOWN, Ohio – A Brown County teen is dead after drowning in Lake Lorelei on May 31, 2018 in Brown County.
According to the Brown County Sheriff’s Office, dispatch received a call at around 2:24 p.m., on Thursday, May 31, with a report that a male subject was a possible drowning victim in Lake Lorelei, west of Fayetteville, Ohio.
According to Sheriff Gordon Ellis, the victim was identified as 17-year-old Maxwell Dickey. Dickey was allegedly swimming in the vicinity of Lake Lorelei’s beach with friends when he disappeared underwater. According to the Sheriff’s Office, several people entered the water immediately when Dickey disappeared and attempted to locate him but were unable to.
Members of the Fayetteville Police Department, Fayetteville Fire/EMS, Brown County Sheriff’s Office and the Ohio Department of Natural Resources responded to the scene as well as the Brown County Sheriff’s Office.
According to Ellis, members of Task Force One responded with specialized water search equipment and located Dickey underwater, where they recovered him.
Members of the Brown County Coroner’s Office responded to the scene where they pronounced Dickey dead.
