Alex Schalch has been named the new head boys basketball coach at Robertson County.
After three seasons under the direction of former head coach Brandon Hinson, the Black Devils amassed a 14-72 record, going 2-27 in 2023-24, 6-21 in 2024-25 and 5-24 in 2025-26. Robertson County graduates ten seniors at the end of this year: Ashton Myers, Nathan Turner, Andrew Gooden, Sam Courtney, Aamari Canyon, Tanner Gifford, Landon Kern, Landon Logan, Hunter Poe and Austin Richards.
Schalch played five seasons at Robertson County during his high school career, starting as a seventh grader in 2014-15, through his junior year in 2018-19. In his first two seasons with the team, Robertson County went 6-21 and 8-19.
His freshman year, former Black Devils head coach and now Pendleton County Lady Cats head coach Patrick Kelsch took over the program, helping lead the team to a 38th District championship appearance and a 10th Region tournament appearance. That year, the Black Devils went 16-15. In 2017-18, Robertson County ended the year with a 20-10 season record, losing to Pendleton County in the first round of the district tournament.
In his last season with the Black Devils, Schalch helped lead Robertson County to yet another district championship and first-round 10th Region tournament appearance, the Black Devils ending the season 22-9. He ended that season with 610 total points, averaging 19.7 per game.
His senior season was spent with the Mason County Royals, where he led the team in scoring with 486 points, averaging 18.0 per game. That year, the Royals picked up a 61-56 victory over Augusta in the 39th District championship game, before falling 52-51 to Montgomery County in the first round of the 10th Region tournament.
Schalch will take over the program at the start of the 2026-27 season, looking to rebuild the team into district championship contenders. He will inherit seven returning players, each hopeful for a much stronger season next year.
