VANCEBURG — David Wayne Skidmore, 54, died with his family by his side on Tuesday, Feb. 23, 2010, at his home after an extended illness.

Mr. Skidmore was born in Garrison on June 27, 1955, to the late Buster “Buck” and June Richardson Skidmore.

He was the coach for the Garrison Ranger Little League baseball team and was a carpenter for 36 years belonging to the Local Union 650.

Mr. Skidmore is survived by his wife of 14 years, Marguerite McConnell Skidmore whom he married March 31, 1995 in Lewis County.

He is also survived by two sons, David W. (Michelle) Skidmore Jr. of Vanceburg and Buster Timothy Skidmore of Garrison; two step-children, Andrea (Chris) Shields of Hebron and Jason Johnson of Mount Sterling; four brothers, Kenneth Skidmore and Nelson (Martha) Skidmore, both of Garrison, Kenneth (Bud) Skidmore of London, Ohio and Larry (Margaret) Skidmore of Powhatan Point, Ohio; three sisters, Wilma (Delbert) Collier, Betty (J.R.) Bloomfield and Cora (Ray) May, all of Garrison; six grandchildren, Taylor Jaret Skidmore, Tyler Craig Skidmore, Rylee Jean Skidmore, Peyton Grace Skidmore, Hunter Skidmore and Dalton Skidmore; and two step-grandchildren, Caleb Shields and Kaitlyn Shields.

He was preceded in death by four brothers, Homer Skidmore, James Donald Skidmore, Ronald Thomas Skidmore and Mike Skidmore; and one sister, Freda Hauck.

Services will be held today at 1 p.m. at the Gaydos Funeral Home with Pastors Joe Bentley, John Lewis and Delbert Collier officiating.

Burial will follow in the Skidmore Cemetery in Garrison.

Visitation was Thursday evening at the funeral home and today at 8 a.m. – 1 p.m. at the funeral home.
