Last weekend, The Ledger Independent received several advertising and editorial awards from the Kentucky Press Association (KPA).

The annual Winter KPA Convention ended on Friday, Jan. 23, with a banquet and an award ceremony. Many members of the KPA filled the conference room at the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Louisville to celebrate.

All the awards received by The Ledger Independent were for the multi-weekly division.

Advertising awards presented to The Ledger Independent included first place for Automotive; first place for Financial; a Certificate of Merit for Real Estate; first and second place for Multiple Advertiser/”Sig” Page; second place for Best Use of Color; first, second and third place for Best Holiday Ad; first place for Special Events and first place in the multi-weekly General Excellence category.

Comments made by the contest’s judges could be read in the award book distributed by the KPA.

Comments made regarding The Ledger Independent’s advertising awards included: “Really well-done ad,” “Just jumps off the page with the color and the message” and “Wow! What an attractive ad and such an important message. I know readers took the time to look at this one because it’s done so well.”

The Ledger’s editorial department received four awards.

Reporter Lauren Tatman received third place for Best General News Story and first place for Best Enterprise or Analytical Story for her article, “Data Centers: From the landowners to the experts.” Regarding the latter, one judge’s comment remarked, “Very thorough and detailed, ensuring multiple opinions and perspectives are fully understood on topic of great local interest.”

Editor Peyton Dunaway received a Certificate of Merit for Best Lede and second place for Best Editorial Page. Regarding the latter, another judge’s comment observed, “Strong opinions and a focus on local people and issues were consistent themes in this entry. Nice job.”

Jennifer Donahue, Publisher at The Ledger Independent, stated, “Our team is exceptional. Even in the face of criticism directed at the media, they remain professional and steadfast. I am proud of their dedication and the positive impact they make in our community. Winning several awards at the Winter KPA Convention demonstrates our efforts matter. It’s a reminder that resilience, hard work, and commitment pay off. I couldn’t be prouder!”
