MAYSVILLE — Sue Carol Swartz Gifford, 90, beloved mother, grandmother and great-grandmother passed away on Friday, March 19, 2021, at Meadowview Regional Medical Center surrounded by her family.
She was born in May’s Lick on March 2, 1931, daughter of the late William Perry and Myrtle Curtis Swartz.
She was a retired Transportation Coordinator for Retired Senior Volunteer Program for 35 years and a former sales clerk for Henley’s Department Store. She enjoyed family celebrations and entertaining friends. Sue was a wonderful cook and it was a delight to sit down at her elegant tables and delicious meals. Her gift of baking rewarded her with being known regionally for her transparent puddings. She was active at Washington United Methodist Church where she served in many capacities and was a member of May’s Lick Homemakers and was a Kentucky Colonel.
Survivors include four daughters, Patti (Bill) Lester, Lynn Moreland, Cindy (Steve) Cropper and Kathy (Ron Burkett) Gifford; four grandchildren, Bill Lester, Krista Smith, Stephenie Cropper Glass and Michael Cropper; eight great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents and husband, Clarence H. Gifford; and her brothers and sisters, Holmes Swartz, Edna Morgan, Cecil Thomas Swartz and Mary Brooks Clary.
Services will be conducted at 2 p.m., on Tuesday, March 23, 2021, at Washington United Methodist Church with former Pastor Phil Bradley officiating.
Burial will follow in the Washington Baptist Cemetery.
Visitation will be from noon until 2 p.m., on Tuesday at the church.
COVID-19 guidelines will be observed.
