FLEMINGSBURG | A Fleming County High School teacher accused of providing alcohol and drugs to students was found not guilty by a six person jury in Fleming County District Court Friday.
Minnie McCord, 41, of Ewing, said she was pleased to hear the verdict after a trial that lasted two days.
“I’m glad it’s over,” she said. “The jury did their job and I’m thankful for (attorney) Ray Bogucki. I’m just happy to see it end. It was long and drawn out and never should have happened.”
McCord was accused of allowing students to partake in moonshine and Smirnoff, a fruit alcoholic beverage, as well as giving them a small bag of marijuana while the students were present in her home sometime around Christmas 2013.
Several former students, colleagues and McCord’s children testified in the trial that began at 1 p.m., Thursday.
During that time, Fleming County Attorney John Price told the jury that the prosecution witnesses would be unable to remember exactly when the events occurred.
McCord was facing charges of trafficking in marijuana less than eight ounces and two counts of third-degree unlawful transaction with a minor.
She was arrested in March after allegations from students in a business math class she taught at the high school for approximately 15 years, led to an investigation by Kentucky State Police, according to KSP Master Trooper Joe Veeneman.
