Clooney 85th birthday concert a celebration

“Come On’a My House: a Rosemary Clooney Birthday Celebration” will take place at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, May 23 at the Washington Opera House, 116 West Second Street in downtown Maysville. Tickets for the event are $10. All seats are non-reserved and will be available for purchase one-hour prior to curtain time.

The celebration is being produced by the Maysville-Mason County Arts Commission and the Maysville Players and will feature musical selections by the Limestone Chorale with guest artists Barbie Zweigart, Rachel Rogers Blackwell, Malea Roberson, and the Jay Flippin Trio. The evening will also include a montage of video clips and spoken word highlighting the singer’s rise to fame and lifetime achievements.

The concert will feature a variety of Clooney tunes including “Come On’a My House,” “Tenderly,” “Hey There,” “From This Moment On,” and “You’re In Kentucky.” The Limestone Chorale will present a medley of songs by composer Jerome Kern as well as selections from “White Christmas,” the 1950s movie musical that has become an annual favorite. John Zeigler is the director of the Limestone Chorale.

Clooney was born on May 23, 1928 and died on June 29, 2002.
