Dear editor,
Just over a year ago on April 2, 2018, I went to Frankfort to rally with thousands of teachers, educators, administrators, classified school employees, first responders, EMT’s, police officers, firemen and women, and other Kentuckians who finally realized that our current Governor was attacking their livelihood, their future, and their credibility. We ran into many friends, family members, and fellow Buffalo Trace voters who were fed up, as well. I was there with my wife, a speech therapist and special education teacher. I was there for my Mother, a retired English and history teacher of 25-plus years. I was there to support our fellow Kentuckians who were being vilified by an undeterred Governor.
While at our Capitol that day, it became obvious that there was a true leader walking the halls of “the people’s house.” There was a leader who was marching up and down the streets with the thousands of Kentuckians. There was a leader who was speaking to the crowds inside and outside of the Capitol halls. There was a leader who at that moment I knew should be the next Governor of our great Commonwealth of Kentucky. That person is House Minority Floor Leader and Kentucky Representative Rocky Adkins.
I’ve had the unique opportunity to travel the 4th District with Rocky the past six months. You’d be hard pressed to find another public servant who spends 12-15 hours a day crisscrossing the state, meeting and listening to everyone from a board room to the break room. Rocky has the direction and experience, most notably, leading the Kentucky House of Representatives for 13 years. Rocky has the proven ability of working across the aisle and understanding how to work in a bipartisan manner. Rocky is a cancer survivor who understands that our health care system is broken. Rocky has lost his job with hundreds of fellow employees and walked out of a shutdown coal mine in his home of Eastern Kentucky. Rocky understands that our infrastructure and economic development futures will rely on broadband internet systems, aerospace and automotive advancements, and a transportation system that is unmatched.
I relay these stories because I’ve seen this leader in action and I cannot think of anyone who is more prepared, someone who has more hands-on experience in all aspects of government, business, and life, or a man who as a father and husband truly wants what is best for everyone throughout Kentucky. If we ever had a chance to bring common sense back to our Commonwealth, that time is now and I hope you’d agree and vote Rocky Adkins for Governor on Tuesday, May 21, 2019.
