Dear editor,
The voters of Bracken, Fleming and Mason Counties are indeed fortunate in having the privilege to vote for one of two extremely competent attorneys for the office of District Court Judge. Both attorneys have previously and do now serve in public office and do an excellent job.
The District Court has jurisdiction for enforcement of offenses, such as possession of marijuana, driving under the influence, other traffic offenses, minor assault and battery, some child support matters, cold checks, and many other offenses as limited by the laws of Kentucky, the penalty for which is a fine, jail sentence, or both. More severe criminal cases are transferred to the Circuit Court for consideration or trial. Approximately ninety percent of all criminal matters pass through the District Court for consideration.
Jeff Schumacher, present District Court Judge, is the only candidate with the experience necessary to execute the duties of Judge of the District court, having formerly served as Trial Commissioner during the tenure of Todd Walton and Frank McCartney, and as the present judge of that Court. As a practicing attorney for some 67 years, I can, honestly and without reservation, say that I have never seen a more qualified attorney for the position of Judge of the District Court. I suggest that his experience is necessary and should be given the utmost consideration in retaining Jeff Schumacher as your District Judge in the upcoming election.
Yours very truly,
