The Registered Nursing Program at Licking Valley Campus of Maysville Community and Technical College has been ranked among the best Nursing Programs in the state of Kentucky by RegisteredNursing.org.

The program ranked third with Berea College and the University of Kentucky earning the top two spots respectively.

The study reviewed schools that offer an associate’s degree in nursing, bachelor’s of science in nursing, as well as direct-entry master’s of science in nursing degrees. Earning the third overall ranking places MCTC at the top of programs in the state that offer a two-year associate’s degree in nursing.

“We are incredibly proud of the current and previous nursing faculty and staff who have worked so hard to build this program at the Licking Valley Campus,” says Campus Director Lori Gaunce. “I recall our first campus director, Bruce Florence walking into the office on Oddville Avenue stating we will have a nursing program one day in Cynthiana. Her dream was fulfilled when we graduated our first nursing class. More importantly, the success of her dream is a reality.”

The study ranked the top 20 programs in the state using current and historical NCLEX-RN pass rates as the primary means to measure student support towards licensure and beyond. The National Council Licensure Examination or NCLEX is a nationwide standardized examination used by state regulatory boards to determine if recent graduates are prepared to become licensed as an entry-level nurse.

The Licking Valley Campus has maintained a perfect 100 percent NCLEX exam pass rate for its RN program students since 2015. Additionally, the RN Program at MCTC’s Maysville Campus also received a 100 percent pass rate for its most recent cohort of graduates. This helped earn them a ranking 25th among the 50 schools included in the study.

“To have our programs recognized among these other institutions is a true honor,” says MCTC President Stephen Vacik. “We also owe a debt of gratitude to our regional healthcare partners. They provide incredible hands-on clinical experience for our students,” Vacik added. “Thanks to that joint effort, we know our graduates are career-ready when they graduate our program.”
