BROOKSVILLE — The first reading of the 2019-2020 fiscal year budget was approved during Bracken County Fiscal Court Wednesday.
The budget includes a general fund of $6.2 million, road fund of $2.3 million, jail fund of $347,762, LGEA fund of $41,232, senior citizens fund of $19,187 and a 911 dispatch fund of $506,353.
According to Bracken County Judge-Executive Tina Teegarden, the budget did not change much from the 2018-2019 budget.
During the meeting, a bid for work on Hillsdale Road was also approved.
The work on the road will include replacing a bridge. The bid for the bridge replacement was from E and E Construction in the amount of $28,520.
Teegarden said the work will be a part of the 80/20 bridge project, so the county will only be responsible for 20 percent of the funding.
E and E Construction was the only bid turned in for the work and was approved by the magistrates.
According to Teegarden, the county is also applying to put rubberized asphalt on the road once work has been completed.
“I’m applying for the rubberized asphalt for that road,” she said. “But the bridge is old and worn down and I didn’t want to put that asphalt on an old bridge.”
Teegarden said the county has to monitor the asphalt for five years once it receives it and she thought it would be better to have the asphalt on a new bridge.
“Once the new bridge has been installed, we will put down the asphalt over it,” she said.
Other items discussed during the meeting included:
— An announcement about the fund-raising event for Zane Ballard’s family on Friday, May 10 at 6 p.m. at BCHS. Teegarden encouraged the community to donate for the fund-raiser and to attend the event. The proceeds will go toward Ballard’s funeral expenses.
— Approving the jailer’s monthly report.
— Approving claims and transfers.
