With 41 years of experience, one could only imagine the stories Danny Weddle can tell with his time behind the mic.

Well, now you’ll get the chance to do so with Weddle’s new book “Talking Sports and More” that was released on Wednesday.

The book chronicle’s Weddle’s interviews over the years during his time as Sports Director at WFTM. Weddle retired from WFTM two years ago in May after over 40 years as Maysville’s “Voice of the Valley”.

“Doing so many interviews over the years, I’ve saved a lot,” Weddle said.

Whether it be cassette tapes or a recorder, Weddle started transcribing old interviews in January of 2019 to start chronicling his new book.

“As a retirement gift, Robert Roe gave me all my interviews on a flash drive which was a big help,” Weddle said. “Some of these interviews may have never made it to the air. I started transcribing and with retirement I did a few things and then got it going again and then COVID hit. Figured it would be hard to sell it during that time, last fall I got it going again and was finally able to finish it.”

The book can be purchased at Local Kentucky 68 in downtown Maysville for $15 (plus tax).

While the book is primarily sports-centered interviews, other chapters include the 1937 flood with interviews from people on the 50-year anniversary of it and Donald Wood, a POW survivor in World War II, are also included in the book.

Weddle didn’t really want to dive into the X’s and O’s part of the interviews in his storytelling of the book, but more behind the scenes stuff with coaches and players.

The book has 47 chapters.

“I hope it’s something that carries generations and stories people either haven’t heard or haven’t heard in quite some time,” Weddle said.

Weddle has also wrote “How We Play The Game”, A history of high school hoops in Mason County that was released in 2012. He’s enjoying his retirement, dabbling in some real estate and other part-time jobs. Despite being away from the game and on the air, he’s still able to take in some basketball when he can. He still updates his blog, courtsidewithdannyweddle.com for the local sports happenings in the area.

“I’ve played a lot of golf. I’ve enjoyed going to games, during the pandemic I didn’t go for a long time. I did go to the state tourney to keep my streak of 41 straight alive,” Weddle said.
