It’s Maher’s year

The final edition of the All-Area teams for fall sports takes us to the gridiron.

We already rolled out the top athletes in the coverage area for golf, soccer, volleyball, cross country and now it’s time to take a look at the top athletes for football.

It was quite the ride for the Fleming County football team this season that earned them their second district championship in three seasons and a record of 10-3. That run was driven by quarterback/linebacker Jonathan Maher and for his efforts leads the All-Area team. Maher became the only quarterback in Fleming County history to throw for over 2,000 yards and rush for 1,000 in a single season, the Panthers making their fifth regional championship game appearance in school history.

On top of combining for 3,584 yards and 42 touchdowns offensively, Maher also led the Panthers with 124 tackles on the season. His special season helped lead the Panthers to a memorable one that ended in Pineville against Bell County with the Fleming County community behind them.

Not to be outdone, some other big years also took place by the Mason County trio of Carson Brammer, Jeremiah Jones and Jayden Riggs, along with Maher’s teammate Kaleb Flanery and Bracken County’s Emery Woods.

They are just a few with standout seasons from the area as we look at the All-Area team.

Carson Brammer, Mason County QB – 143/258 passing, 2,282 yds, 33 TD, 85 rushes, 227 yds, 6 TD

Jeremiah Jones, Mason County WR/DB – 44 receptions, 898 yds, 14 TD

Kaleb Flanery, Fleming County WR/RB/DB – 62 receptions, 702 yds, 5 TD, 49 rushes, 322 yds, 8 TD, 7 INT on defense

Jayden Riggs, Mason County WR/DB – 49 receptions, 906 yds, 12 TD, 32 tackles, 3 INT on defense

Logan Pinkley, Fleming County WR – 49 receptions, 702 yds, 7 TD

Andrew Jackson, Fleming County WR/LB – 25 receptions, 255 yds, 5 TD, Rush TD, 102 tackles, 3 INT, 3 fum. rec. on defense

Kyron Humphrey, Fleming County OL – Key member of an offensive line for an offense that produced 39.1 points per game

Zeke Conn, Fleming County RB/LB – 2 rush TD, 107 tackles, 5 tackles for loss, INT

Jett Hamilton, Fleming County DL – 68 tackles, 5 tackles for loss and 4 sacks

Ashton Adams, Mason County DB/K – 69 tackles, 4 INT, 2 fum. rec., 31/36 XP

Dylan Osgood, Mason County LB – 82 tackles, 3 sacks, 3 fum. rec

Tyler Stice, Mason County LB – 70 tackles, 3 INT, fum. rec.

Payton Gilvin, Bracken County RB/SS – 113 rush, 669 yds, 3 TD, 26 tackles, INT on defense
