Bowling mows down Russell, Lady Royals 2nd at BoCo Invitational

RUSSELL — Mason County’s Landen Bowling is finding his groove.

The junior pitcher has gone 25 straight innings without allowing an earned run according to the KHSAA team pages website and provided a near lights out performance on Saturday against Russell in a 2-1 victory for the Royals.

Bowling pitched a complete game, allowing two hits and a run, not earned to go with a walk while striking out 15 batters.

The Red Devils came to Maysville less than two weeks ago and beat the Royals 14-0 in five innings, not allowing a hit. The Royals continued to show their marked improvement from that time going 3-1 to get their record to 6-7.

Mason County jumped out to a 2-0 lead after two innings on Saturday and let Bowling do the rest.

Carson Brammer and Dylan Mitchell each collected an RBI in the first two innings. Russell got a run back in the third but only three runners got on base the rest of the game.

The Red Devils threatened in the bottom of the seventh as the first two batters got on via a hit by pitch and an error, but Bowling struck out the next three batters to end the game.

The Royals three-game winning streak was short lived, however. Rowan County punished the Royals in the second game, 16-0 in three innings to get Mason County to 6-8 on the year.

They’ll return to action on Monday when they play at Fleming County.
