Area XC teams tune up for invitational with all-comers meet
Mason County’s all-comers meet on Tuesday gave runners from Mason, Fleming County, St. Patrick, Augusta and West Union a chance to stretch their legs before Saturday’s Mason County Invitational.
The Lady Royals chose to rest three of their most experienced runners but still finished with a perfect 15. Fleming’s top runner participated in the middle school meet. Mason’s Cara Woods finished first individually, and seventh-grader Rheagan Sizemores, running her first varsity race, came in second. Fleming’s Kelsey Dillion and Jenna Perkins were third and fourth, the Lady Dragons’ Tess Burns was fifth, and Bailey Menke came in sixth.
Mason’s Nick Robinson won the boys’ meet, while Pendleton County took the team competition. West Union’s Tim Snider was sixth and the Royals’ Tanner Kirkland and Alex Robinson were seventh and 10th, respectively.
Georgetown, Ripley, St. Patrick 1-2-3 in golf trimatch
Georgetown shot 181, Ripley fired 203 and St. Patrick shot 219 in a trimatch at Buttermilk Falls Golf Course on Monday.
G-Men Trent Poe and Hugh Highlander were co-medalists with 41s. Clinton McElroy shot 42 for Georgetown.
Jordan Mitchell led the Blue Jays (5-5, 6-3 Southern Hills League) with a 43. Justin Cluxton shot 51, Jared Cluxton hit 54 and Jon Dunn fired 55.
William McKay led the Saints with a 46. Warren Baker and Andrew Sticklen each hit 55.
Ripley is participating in the SHL tournament this week.
Lady Warriors edge New Richmond 1-0
Eastern Brown took down host New Richmond 1-0 on Monday.
Senior Allison Prine scored the game-winner on an assist from freshman Courtney Belmont. Sophomore goalie Alex Davis recorded 12 saves.
Eastern is at Lynchburg-Clay today in a non-league game as part of a boys-girls doubleheader.
Lady Devils win sixth consecutive match
Deming posted its sixth victory in a row by defeating Augusta 2-0 (25-9, 25-6) in the Devil’s Dome on Tuesday.
Kelsey Carmack led the 15-4 Lady Devils with 12 aces and six kills.
Jessica Mitchell served for two aces and had three kills, Kenzi Graves served for five aces, Samantha Gaunce and Hannah Gifford each had a pair of kills and Lacey Mitchell produced a kill for Deming.
The Lady Devils return to action this evening when they host 8-6 George Rogers Clark.
