Tony Danza is looking for a new home! Tony is an adorable and friendly guy. He is still very much a playful puppy. His estimated age is around 8 months, and he already weighs 66 pounds, so we expect him to grow into a big boy! This handsome boy is also smart and highly trainable! He seems to be housetrained, as he does not have potty accidents in his kennel. Tony also gets along well with other dogs and loves the older children who visit the shelter. Ask Tony, “Who’s the boss?” and he would happily tell you anyone with treats is!
Tony came to the shelter as a stray. He was not reclaimed by his owner. This sweet pup is ready for his fur-ever home. If you can provide that for him, scan the QR code beside his picture to learn more and apply to adopt him now!
Heartworm disease is a potentially fatal disease that effects dogs. According to Humane World for Animals, Heartworm disease is most prevalent in the southern United States but can happen to dogs anywhere. It is transmitted by mosquito bite, which deposits worm eggs into the blood stream. From there, they live and reproduce in the dog’s heart, slowly strangling their blood supply. Symptoms of heartworm infection include cough, lethargy, shortness of breath, weight loss, and swelling.
Heartworm treatment is expensive and treatment may come with the risk of blood clots and potentially fatal allergic reaction. It is crucial to prevent heartworms in your dog through medication prescribed by your veterinarian. After heartworm testing, every Mason County Animal Shelter dog receives NexGard Plus monthly to prevent heartworm and other parasitic infections. There are several different heartworm prevention options, including long-lasting injections and generic medications that are more affordable than brand name medications. Talk to your veterinarian about heartworm prevention and visit https://www.humaneworld.org/en/resources/preventing-and-treating-heartworms to learn more.

MCAS needs more volunteers and foster homes! You can foster a dog for as long as you like — a few hours or a “Doggo Day Out,” a weekend, a few weeks, or longer. Volunteers can help in many ways, including walking dogs, grooming/bathing dogs, helping with playgroups, transporting, or helping at meet-and-greet events out in the community. If you want to become an MCAS volunteer and/or fosterer or sponsor a dog’s adoption fees, please call the shelter at 606-564-6067 or email animalshelter@masoncountykentucky.us.
