Ms. Honey is a beautiful Shepherd mix who is as sweet as her namesake! She gets along well with other dogs. Visiting children adore her and the feeling is mutual. Shelter volunteer Shayla Wietelmann said she took treats gently from a visiting youngster and sweetly laid her head in their lap.
Honey is easy to walk on a leash, crate trained, does her business outside and already knows “sit” and “lay down” commands. She enjoys being petted and seeks and gives affection.
Ms. Honey came to the shelter as a stray with her two weaned puppies. They were not reclaimed. We are seeking rescue for her puppies, but Ms. Honey is available for adoption now. Like every dog adopted from our shelter, she will be altered to prevent future litters. If you are interested in giving Honey a fur-ever home, scan the QR code beside her picture and apply to adopt her now.
According to Humane World for Animals, spaying and neutering is crucial for your pet’s health, safety and longevity. Altered pets live longer than those who are not and are less likely to develop reproductive cancers. They are also less likely to roam, which can lead to injuries and attacks by other animals. Speak with your veterinarian about spaying and neutering your pets. Visit https://www.rock4rescue.com/spay-and-neuter-resources for a list of low-cost spay/neuter providers and voucher programs.

Adoption Information
All dogs adopted from Mason County Animal Shelter are spayed and neutered, microchipped, vaccinated, dewormed and treated with flea/tick preventatives. Adoption fees are half-priced thanks to the EnviroFlight Fur-ever Home Adoption Sponsorship Program! Adult dog adoption fees are $40, and puppy adoption fees are $60! One generous individual is willing to pay the adoption fee for a veteran to adopt a dog of their choice. Tom and Gail Wise have generously sponsored adoption fees for Pops and several other dogs who have been adopted. Sponsors for the adoption fees of any of the shelter’s dogs are welcome! Contact the shelter for information!
Prospective adopters need to fill out a short application online or at the shelter for adoption approval. Go to the shelter’s Adopt-a-Pet website to view all available animals and fill out the application to adopt:

MCAS needs more volunteers and foster homes! You can foster a dog for as long as you like; a few hours, a “Doggo Day Out,” a weekend, a few weeks or longer. Volunteers can help in many ways, including walking dogs, grooming/bathing dogs, helping with playgroups, transporting or helping at meet-and-greet events out in the community. If you want to become an MCAS volunteer and/or fosterer or sponsor a dog’s adoption fees, please call the shelter at 606-564-6067 or email animalshelter@masoncountykentucky.us.
