Pierre has quickly stolen the hearts of the shelter team, and he will steal yours too! He has adorable ears and resembles a “baby bunny” according to shelter auntie Mandi Halstead. This boy is wonderful with children and was very gentle with a toddler who visited the shelter. He is easy to walk on a leash, knows “sit,” and possibly other commands. Pierre is housetrained, crate trained, and enjoys his elevated bed at the shelter. He is treat-motivated and especially loves cheese.

Pierre came to the shelter as a stray and was not reclaimed by his owner. He had some skin issues and tested positive for Lymes disease on intake. The veterinarian prescribed him an antibiotic regimen that will take care of both. He has not joined playgroups yet but has had playful interactions with other dogs while on leash. He is looking for a loving fur-ever home that will provide him with patience and grace as he comes out of his shell. If you can provide that, scan the QR code beside his picture and apply to adopt him now!

Adopting a dog is a joyous occasion for a family. It is important to note that the dog may be overwhelmed in their new home and will take time to adjust. The rule of 3s, 3-days, 3-weeks, and 3-months, is a guideline often quoted by animal rescue professionals. According to ASPCA, it takes a newly adopted dog around 3 days to de-stress and settle in. Interactions with other pets or people should not be forced. It is often recommended to keep the new dog separated in a crate or spare room for a few days to help them adjust and decompress from shelter life before meeting other pets. This practice is known as a “slow intro.” At around 3 weeks, your new dog should be starting to settle in and may be ready for formal obedience training. Adopted dogs are often not fully comfortable in their new home for around 3 months, some

longer. It is important to be patient with your new furry family member. They will give you a lifetime of loyalty and love in return.
