Tuff is a sweet guy with a fabulous smile! This boy gets along with everyone, including dogs, cats and children. He is easy to walk on a leash and already housetrained! Tuff enjoys a good cuddle session and loves to snuggle with a blanket. Even though he is mature, he still likes to play and loves toys! He is also very treat-motivated and smart!

Tuff was surrendered to the shelter by his owners due to no fault of his own. They had recently adopted him from a shelter in Ohio to save him from euthanasia and the other dog in their home did not like him. His former owners and the shelter staff want him to have the best, comfortable and loving home possible! If you can provide that, scan the QR code beside his picture and apply to adopt him now!

A Maddie’s Fund study found that senior dogs like Tuff spend more time in shelters than younger dogs. Their investigation found the adoption rate for senior dogs is only 25 percent compared to 60 percent for younger dogs. Shelters that euthanize for space choose to euthanize senior dogs before younger because they are less adoptable. Senior dogs are euthanized at a rate 2.5 times more than younger dogs.

People perceive senior dogs as having health problems or being less likely to be playful. This is ageism against these wonderful dogs, as dogs like Tuff have so much life and love to give. Please give a senior dog a chance! Seniors Tuff, Pops and Cane at Mason County Animal Shelter would appreciate your consideration and love! Mason County Animal Shelter is a no-kill shelter, and they will be safely waiting for you to adopt them!
