Maximus is a total gentleman! He is quiet in his kennel, keeps his kennel clean, and has had no potty accidents! Max is smart, already knows “sit” and is working on “lay down.” He loves treats and will do anything for a Milk-Bone! This boy is also very cuddly and loves attention from his person. He is what some people call a “Velcro dog” because he wants to always be beside his person. Max is a pro at leash walking and never pulls. He has been good with other dogs in the shelter and loves the children who visit the shelter too.
Maximus was abandoned at the shelter after hours. This boy deserves a loving, fur-ever home. If you are interested in adopting sweet Max, scan the QR code beside his picture and apply to adopt him now!
April was another busy month at the shelter. There were 16 total intakes: abandoned – 3, stray – 6, and owner surrenders – 4. Outcomes for the 14 dogs who left the shelter were as follows: adopted – 6 and transferred to rescue organizations – 8. The shelter had 21 dogs in custody as of 4/30/2025. The Animal Control Officer brought 9 dogs to the shelter.
Thanks to generous donations to the shelter and to Rock 4 Rescue, all dogs adopted from the shelter are vaccinated, spayed/neutered, and microchipped. Every dog brought into the shelter is immediately started on the 5-in-1 vaccine series, receives a 3-day dewormer regimen, and is administered flea/tick prevention to safeguard their health while in the shelter. Deworming and flea/tick prevention continues monthly throughout their shelter stay. Colonial Heights Veterinary Clinic completes spay/neuter surgeries and Rabies vaccination for the shelter dogs. The shelter team appreciates the community’s generosity and support!
