Hercules is a gorgeous Alaskan Malamute! He gets along well with other dogs at the shelter. Herc has also had wonderful interactions with older kids who visit the shelter but may be a bit too active for little kids. This good boy loves to run and play but sometimes doesn’t realize he is a BIG boy. He is easy to walk on a leash. This guy also keeps his kennel clean so we suspect he may already be housetrained! Herc loves attention from people and is very social. He is also intelligent and knows “sit” and possibly other commands.

Hercules was found as a stray near Maysville Walmart. His owner did not reclaim him. He will be adopted to a home that is the best fit for him, preferably by someone with working-breed experience. Scan the QR code beside his picture to learn more about him and apply to adopt this gorgeous boy now!

According to the Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife, wintertime is coyote mating season. As coyotes seek mates, they are more active and may venture into populated areas. They are also more likely to interact with or attack outdoor pets. Keeping pets indoors and attended when outside is the most effective way to keep them safe from coyote attacks.

If you find yourself in the presence of a coyote, the Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife recommends you do the following: Immediately start scaring the coyote away by making loud noises, shouting, whistling, clapping your hands, and stomping your feet. Make yourself appear larger by waving your arms and widening your stance. Establish dominance by taking a step or lunging in the coyote’s direction and throwing objects in the coyote’s direction but not directly at it. Pick up any small dog or child with you to protect them. Continue to scare the coyote away until it is out of your sight. Stay away from known coyote den areas, as coyotes will act to protect their pups. Do not run or turn your back away from the coyote. Visit https://fw.ky.gov/wildlife/pages/coyotes.aspx for more detailed information on how to keep yourself and your pets safe from coyotes.
