Several members of the Limestone Society of the Children of the American Revolution traveled to Charleston, W.Va. for the 46th annual mid-southern regional meeting July 19-20.
The mid-southern region is made up of the states of Kentucky, Tennessee, Virginia and West Virginia.
During the meeting, CAR members learned about the new programs for the 2002-2003 year.
The current national theme is “Celebrate Freedom” with the national project focus being on raising funds for an outdoor classroom at Independence National Historic Park in Philadelphia.
Also during the meeting, national board members presented informative skits to help the children learn about the wide variety of programs that include learning about the history of the flag, the role of Sacagawea, the national parks, volunteering and much more.
Meg Giffen, Kentucky state president, participated in the skits as well as reporting on her state project with the Blue Licks Battlefield State Resort Park Pioneer Museum. Dena Green, Kentucky senior state president, attended adult leader workshops and coordinated the decorations for the Saturday evening banquet.
Haley Riggs and Sarah Green served as conference pages while Zachary Rigg and Andrew Green served as flag bearers. Other senior leaders who attended were Duff Giffen and Michelle Jackson-Rigg.
A highlight for the delegation from Kentucky was to have one of the members chosen as the region enthusiast. This award was presented to Zachary Rigg by National President David Sweeney of Pennsylvania. The region enthusiast represents the individual member who has shown the most patriotic spirit during the region meeting and best represents the national theme of “Celebrate Freedom.” Zach is a seventh grade student at St. Patrick School.
