WEST UNION, Ohio — An investigation is underway by the Georgetown Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol pertaining to a single vehicle school bus crash that occurred on State Route 125 at 6:30 a.m. in Tiffin Township in Adams County on Wednesday, May 14.
Russell Rickets Jr, 30, was driving a 2018 Thomas Built school bus from the Adams County, Ohio Valley School district westbound on State Route 125 from Manchester.
In a media release put out by the Ohio State Highway Patrol, “the vehicle drove off the right side of the roadway and struck a culvert, an embankment, and a large rock prior to coming to final rest.”
A preliminary investigation discovered that 16 students were on board at the time of the crash. 13 of those students received medical treatment at local medical facilities for minor, non-life-threatening injuries.
Ricketts was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the accident and was also treated for minor injuries.
Parents were notified of the crash by staff at the Adams County, Ohio Valley School District.
The Georgetown Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol was assisted on scene by the Adams County Sheriff’s Office, West Union Fire and EMS and Manchester Fire and EMS.
The accident remains under investigation.
