MOUNT OLIVET — The Robertson County Board of Education was recently presented a draft budget for the 2019-20 school year.
The budget includes a beginning balance of $1 million, a general fund revenue of $4.499 million, a capital outlay fund of $34,829, a building fund of $290,383, a debt service fund of $2.13 million and a food service fund of $497,170.
Robertson County Superintendent Sanford Holbrook said he was not expecting any issues with the budget.
“We don’t expect any problems,” he said. “Ms. Teegarden does a great job at planning out our budgets and making sure we’re prepared for the worst. We’re a small district, so we try to get the best bang for our buck. If we know something big is happening, we’ll try to plan a few years in advance, so all of it doesn’t come out of one budget at the last minute.”
Holbrook said the draft budget does not have to be approved or sent to the Kentucky Department of Education.
“There are three budgets,” he said. “The draft budget is something you do in January. The board just acknowledges it. In May, you put together your tentative budget, which does need to be approved and sent to KDE. You’re final budget is in September. The last budget is put together then because you never know if you’ll lose students or gain students at the beginning of the year. Things can change by then.”
Other items discussed at the recent meeting included:
— An announcement that March 20,2019 will be the ACT testing day for all juniors.
— Approval of the December 2018 financial officer report and all bills and claims through January 2019.
