VANCEBURG — Emergency services were called to the Dollar General store in Vanceburg for a vehicle that was engulfed in flames.

Vanceburg Police Officer Mike Ginn said the fire was reported between at approximately 4:15 p.m. Along with the VPD, the Vanceburg Fire Department responded to the scene.

Ginn said the vehicle that caught fire was a late 1990s model white Chevrolet Cavalier belonging to Moe Dyer. Dyer’s daughter-in-law had driven the vehicle to the Dollar General store and was inside the store with her children when the fire started, Ginn said.

The fire appeared to have started from inside the car, though no determination has been made as to what caused the fire.

No other vehicles were damaged by the fire and there were no injuries, Ginn said. However, the parking lot sustained a small amount of damage from the fire.

The incident remains under investigation.
