GEORGETOWN, Ohio | Friends and family attended services for a young mother and her unborn child, on Wednesday, a week after Brittany Stykes, and her 14-month-old daughter, Aubree were found shot in her Jeep in Brown County, Ohio.
Brittany and her unborn child died at the scene.
According to family members, the toddler was treated for a head wound and is recovering in a Cincinnati hospital, with her father Shane Stykes at her side.
According to police, the yellow Jeep was spotted by travelers, over an embankment about 8 p.m., on Aug. 28, in some trees along U.S. 68 between Ripley, Ohio, and Georgetown.
Stykes’ vehicle was running and the door was riddled with bullets.
Stykes was dead but Aubree, bloodied, was crying for her mother, a rescuer said.
According to family members, Stykes was a Sunday school teacher and loving person, with no enemies.
According to family announcements on social media sites, Aubree is recovering, active and asking for her mother.
A memorial display was erected for Stykes at the Maysville Walmart where she was an employee.
Donation funds have been set up at several banks in Brown County, including Fifth Third, PNC Bank and National bank and Trust, reference the Stykes Family Fund, or Brittany/Aubrey Dodson-Stykes Fund, to help offset funeral and medical treatment costs.
