BROOKSVILLE — Robbin Snapp has been named the new Bracken County Animal Shelter Director.

She will succeed the retiring Pat Taylor.

Snapp is a graduate of Manchester High School and has lived in many areas. She currently lives in Mason County, just six miles from the Bracken County line.

She began working at the shelter on Monday and said she is excited.

“I’m completely ecstatic,” she said. “My dream has always been to work with animals. I love animals. I grew up around them. They can’t speak for themselves, so someone has to do it.”

According to Snapp, she has several goals for the shelter, including starting up a spay/neuter program in the county, spay/neuter program for all incoming shelter animals, getting more volunteers and more paid positions.

“We need a spay/neuter program in the county that would be low cost to the residents,” she said. “It’s important, because it means the animals are not having litters of puppies/kittens and it means less health issues in the future. I’d also like to have more volunteers in the shelter and paid positions. Overall, my 10-year plan is to make the shelter bigger and better.”

Snapp said she has already started thinking about grants and fundraisers to help the shelter.

“As soon as I found out they were hiring and I put in my application, I started looking at grants,” she said. “The second I found out I had the job, I started thinking about the fundraisers I could put together — whatever I can do to help the shelter and keep the county from having to spend more money.”

According to Bracken County Judge-Executive Tina Teegarden, Snapp was chosen because of her experience with animal shelters.

“She has an overwhelming amount of experience in animal shelters,” Teegarden said. “She’s worked for more than 10 years with shelters and she has experience in grant writing.”

Snapp said she has volunteered in many shelters over the years.

“I’ve rescued, transported, fostered and help local shelters for many years,” she said.

Teegarden said she is looking forward to having Snapp as the new director.

“I’m looking forward to working with her and continuing to improve the shelter,” Teegarden said. “She’s going to continue working on expanding the program and improving the shelter and we’re happy to have her.”

Taylor’s last day is Wednesday.
