Wendell High returns as Augusta mayor, Corlis retains title in Brooksville

BROOKSVILLE — It was after 11 p.m. before official election results were announced by Bracken County Clerk RaeJean Poe Tuesday.

In Augusta, the mayoral race was won by former Mayor Wendell High who won by a narrow margin over another former mayor, Louis Habermehl Jr. High tallied 159 votes, Habermehl, 135 and third candidate James Thornbury was named on 139 ballots.

Brooksville will remain in the hands of mayoral incumbent John Corlis, who won re-election in a three-candidate race.

In Germantown, where voters in Mason and Bracken Counties decide the winner, incumbent Mayor Maude Teegarden was returned to office with 72 votes over Tyrone Berry’s 40 votes.

Overall, 53 percent of registered voters went to the polls in Bracken County, Tuesday.
