EWING — For 28 years, people in the Buffalo Trace area have attended the Ewing-Fleming County Fair. This year the fair is being held July 11-16, and fair coordinators have added three new events to the fair schedule, said Angie Black, manager of the fair grounds.
A wiener dog race on Saturday, July 16, has been added, as well as a mother/son look-a-like contest and a father/daughter look-a-like contest on Thursday, July 14.
Black said the fair tries to bring in new events each year, while keeping the same popular attractions.
“We try to mix it around a little bit each year,” Black said.
Pageants will be held on Monday and Tuesday nights of the fair, and rehearsals for the main pageants will be held on Saturday, July 9. The baby show is on Wednesday.
Main attractions, like the farm animal shows and sales, will be held throughout the week.
The lamb show will be Tuesday night; the swine show and sale will be Wednesday night.
The dairy show and steer and beef show will be Thursday, and the horse show will be on Friday and Saturday.
The demolition derby will be Wednesday night and mud racing will be Thursday night. There will also be tractor pulls on Monday and Tuesday night.
A carnival is included in the fair schedule, and carnival rides will be provided by Scott Nolan Amusements.
Black said the carnival will be open all week, and guests will be able to ride the amusement rides until the carnival closes each night.
“The rides usually stay open as long as they have a good crowd,” Black said.
In the past, the demolition derby has been the main attraction, Black said, but now many of the events draw a large crowd.
“I know each year it seems to grow … I’m pleased with the attendance,” she said. “I think each night the fair brings a crowd regardless of what the events are.”
Registration for most events is at 6 p.m. each night, and Black said the events will begin at 7 p.m. Black said most events will end around 11 p.m., but the fair will stay open until all shows and contests are finished.
Admission to the fair is $7, and carnival rides are included in the entrance fee. Children three and under get in free, but must pay for carnival rides. There are no refunds.
Fairgrounds are located on Kentucky 165 between Fairview and Ewing.
