We have featured Paisley in this article before and cannot believe she is still available for adoption! This girl is very friendly with people and is an expert cuddler. She loves toys! Before going for walks, she jumps into the shelter’s toy box to pick out her toy for the day. She is athletic and easily clears the portable hurdle in the shelter’s play yard (see MCAS Volunteers YouTube for the video). Paisley has spent time in a foster home, where she demonstrated she is good with horses and cats. She even likes water and tried to join her foster in the hot tub! Paisley has come a long way in being more comfortable around other dogs, and many shelter dogs join her for morning walks. She does not like to share her toys, so shelter staff make sure no toys are present when she interacts with other dogs. MCAS Volunteers Gail and Tom Wise take her for a weekly car ride and describe her as “the ideal dog.” She is our most improved dog at the shelter!

Paisley has been in the shelter for an entire year now. She keeps getting overlooked for adoption. Is it because she usually makes goofy faces in her pictures? Is it because she would do best as the only dog in the home? We do not know. We know she is a loving, funny, playful girl who deserves the best fur-ever home! Scan the QR code beside her picture for more information, and complete the application to adopt her now!

If you find your dog is displaying unwanted behaviors, they may not be getting enough exercise or mental stimulation. According to PetMeds, dogs need 30 minutes to 2 hours of exercise daily, with larger breeds needing more time than smaller dogs. Outdoor walks, trips to the dog park, or indoor activities like fetch, puzzle toys, or hide-and-seek will help meet their mental stimulation requirements. Having at least two dogs in the home takes some of the burden off the owner, as dogs will play with each other and effectively wear each other out. If a

dog does not receive enough daily activity, it may become obese, have joint issues, and display unwanted behavior like being destructive or hyperactive. Talk to your veterinarian about your dog’s exercise needs.

Adoption Information:

Adoption fees are half-priced thanks to the EnviroFlight Fur-ever Home Adoption Sponsorship Program! Adult dog adoption fees are $40, and puppy adoption fees are $60! Several MCAS dogs have sponsors covering their total adoption fees, and one generous individual is willing to pay the adoption fee for a veteran to adopt a dog of their choice. Sponsors for the remainder of the adoption fee for any of the shelter’s dogs are welcome!

Adopters must complete a brief application online or at the shelter before they are approved to adopt. Go to the shelter’s Adopt-a-Pet website to view all available animals and fill out the application to adopt: www.adoptapet.com/shelter/90606/available-pets/pets

Or visit the shelter’s Petfinder website: www.petfinder.com/member/us/ky/maysville/mason-county-animal-shelter-ky421

MCAS needs more volunteers and foster homes! You can foster a dog for as long as you like, a few hours or a “Doggo Day Out,” a weekend, a few weeks, or longer. Volunteers can help in

many ways, including walking dogs, grooming/bathing dogs, helping with playgroups, transporting, or helping at meet-and-greet events out in the community. If you want to become an MCAS volunteer and/or fosterer or would like to sponsor a dog’s adoption fees, please call the shelter at 606-564-6067 or email animalshelter@masoncountykentucky.us.
