Players are back

Dear editor,

I have just had the privilege of directing the production of Mary & Myra with the Maysville Players at the Opera House downtown. I cannot tell you how much fun it was being back in the Opera House and I wanted to thank all of you who came to see the play. Considering that this play was assumed to be a “serious” play we had a wonderful turnout both weekends and a thoroughly engaged audience at each performance. We also had the opportunity to perform for two groups of schoolchildren and I am most gratified to tell you that they were even more engaged and entertained than a lot of the adults!

After Mike Thomas retired from running the Players in the Spring of 2020, which also coincided with the onset of COVID, the future of the Players was uncertain, but I want the community to know that the Players are alive and kicking!

There is a whole new, young and very enthusiastic community spirit at the Players that have emerged from the depths of COVID and everyone is welcome to get involved.

There will be a full schedule going forward and that will be announced shortly. I can tell you that there will be a performance of “The Little Mermaid,” slated for August, and a fantastic kids’ theater camp in June.

Watch this space because it is going to overflow with entertainment for the whole community.

Best regards,

Simon J. Watt
