BROOKSVILLE, Ky. — The Mason County Lady Royals had a late night in the 10th Region softball tournament.

After picking up a 3-2 win over Bracken County in the 39th District championship game, the Lady Royals were scheduled to face the Campbell County Lady Camels in the last of four 10th Region quarterfinal games held at Bracken County on Monday. The two teams stepped onto the field at 9:30 p.m., both hoping to add another game to their season.

In the top of the first, a trio of singles from Josie Feebeck, Hope Hamilton and Faith Whitford brought in the Lady Camel’s first run of the night, followed by another single from Lilly Phirman, a fly ball from Mallory Fleckenstein and a steal of home from Whitford to add two more runs to the scoreboard.

Campbell County’s 3-0 lead remained until the bottom of the second, with a single from Reagan Workman, an HBP from Sydney Ullery and another single from Kayln Gallagher scoring Mason County’s first run of the night, and another single from Aubrey Gross batting in their second.

Two singles, a walk and a double drove in three more runs for Campbell County in the top of the third, now leading 6-2 over the Lady Royals.

“What they did tonight is what we didn’t do real good this year, is two out hitting. I think they had at least three two out innings where they got most of the runs after two outs, and that’s what the great teams have to do to get wins, is make the plays and get the two out hits, and they did that tonight,” said Lady Royals head coach Brian Littleton.

In the top of the fourth, six singles and a home run over the fence in left field by Hamilton added seven more runs for the Lady Camels, extending their lead to 13-2 over Mason County. The Lady Royals battled their way back into the contest in the bottom of the fifth, driving in four to keep the game alive another inning.

“Our kids didn’t quit. We could’ve been run ruled in the fifth, and we battled back and took it to the sixth and almost battled and took it to the seventh. Campbell County’s a very, very good team and they hit the ball hard tonight,” said Coach Littleton.

Four singles and two walks in the top of the sixth then added four more runs for Campbell County. The Lady Royals picked up one more run in the bottom half of that inning, but were unable to bring in any more runners before the inning came to an end. Campbell County picked up the win 17-7 in six innings, bringing an end to the Lady Royals’ 2026 season.

Mason County graduated three seniors at the end of this year: Kalyn Gallagher, Olivia Hughes and Karleigh Thomas.

“It’s like every year, you just gotta reload. We had two great seniors last year and we had to come in here, pick up the slack; these girls will have to pick up the slack. We had three girls that were very important, not just on the field but how they conducted themselves off the field, which, to me, is very important,” said Coach Littleton. “It’s always the toughest thing as a coach, your last game with seniors. These three have been as good as a leader as this team could ever have.”

Campbell County is scheduled to returned to the field Thursday evening to face off against the Harrison County Fillies in the 10th Region semifinals.
