The blur that area residents catch out of the corner of their eye from June to September every year is possibly Maysville’s best emissary.

Surely Duff Giffen has had some bad days in her life, but you would never know it by meeting her. She may well be the busiest person in the county during the summer months, but her demeanor is always friendly and open, never rushed.

Her job as Renaissance manager and role of Jack-of-all-Festivals puts her in contact with people from all over the country and we can’t imagine a better ambassador.

They come from all over for the Rosemary Clooney Music Festival which under the guidance and leadership of Giffen has been a success from its first year.

Anyone who has ever seen the transformation of Third Street as tables, stage and chairs are set up to accommodate the hundreds of people who will enjoy the entertainment, can appreciate this woman’s effort.

She is also in charge of Fourth of July festivities, the Riverwalk Arts Festival, Christmas parade and Halloween celebration. But it’s not how hard Giffen works that most impresses us; it’s her style.

Always available with a ready smile and accommodating attitude, Giffen can be counted on when her talents are in demand.

She fends off compliments with self deprecating humor, which endears her that much more.

Clooney Festival Producer Jerry Lundergan said it best.

“I couldn’t give Duff Giffen enough accolades,” Lundergan said.

Here. Here.

To that sentiment we can only add our appreciation and gratitude for many jobs well done.
