FRANKFORT — Lewis County has been awarded state funding to repair several county roads damaged during severe thunderstorms in early June, officials said.
Gov. Steve Beshear and Transportation Secretary Joe Prather made the announcement.
“Lewis County Fiscal Court will receive $150,000 in County Road Aid emergency funds for repairs to county roads damaged by recent storms,” information from Beshear’s office indicated.
The roads serve numerous residences in Lewis County and include Holly Branch Road, Birchwood Lane, Spy Run Road, Fingerboard Road and Dry Hollow Road. “The repairs will make it safer for cars, school, buses, and other vehicles,” Prather said.
According to a report presented to Lewis County Fiscal Court by County Judge-Executive Steve Applegate during a June meeting, the storms left almost $800,000 in damages to county roads.
“It is important that we help cities and counties fund emergency repairs to local roadways, because those routes are vital links in the state’s transportation network.” Prather said. “Solid transportation infrastructure is vital in Lewis County and across the commonwealth.”
The Lewis County Fiscal Court is responsible for administering the work.
Judge-Executive Steve Applegate and Road Department Supervisor Dane Howard were unavailable for comment Wednesday.
