MOUNT OLIVET — According to a letter sent on Thursday, Oct. 9, Terry Gray has resigned from his position as Robertson County Sheriff.

His resignation comes after the offices of Gov. Andy Beshear and the General Counsel sent a letter on Wednesday, Oct. 8, requesting that Gray tender his resignation within five business days.

“If you do not tender your resignation, the Governor will move forward with removal under KRS 63.100 for neglect of duty, including, but not limited to, the commission of a wrongful act in the performance of official duty, habitual drunkenness in office, and gross immorality or misconduct in office amounting to neglect of duty,” the letter from the offices of Gov. Beshear and General Counsel stated.

Gray’s letter, provided by Scottie Ellis with Gov. Beshear’s Office, states, “Effective as of the date of this letter, I hereby tender my resignation from the position of Sheriff of Robertson County.”

Gray was arrested on the evening of Tuesday, Oct. 7, and charged with operating a motor vehicle under the influence of alcohol (third offense), reckless driving, wanton endangerment in the first degree and official misconduct in the first degree.

He was previously charged with operating a motor vehicle under the influence of alcohol in December 2023 and August 2024 and was convicted of the charges on Oct. 23, 2024.

On Tuesday, Gray was allegedly driving at a high rate of speed with flashing blue lights in Mason County around US 68 and KY 11.

According to his arrest citation, Gray was allegedly wearing a uniform “with Sheriff insignia on it.” It was further alleged that he had a firearm and handcuffs on his person.

Mason County Sheriff Ryan Swolsky, who was the arresting officer, claimed on the citation that he could smell the odor of an alcoholic beverage on Gray’s person.

The citation noted that Gray submitted a breath test at the Mason County Detention Center, and his B.A. result was .226.
