WEST UNION, Ohio – The case of a woman charged with conspiracy to commit murder was bound over to the Adams County Common Pleas Court Monday by Judge Alan Foster following a preliminary hearing.
Fayette County Chief Deputy Alan Witherspoon testified as an undercover agent during the hearing. According to court records, he testified Cynthia L. Ebeling of Cherry Fork, Ohio, conspired to hire him to kill another man.
Based on Witherspoon’s testimony, Foster determined probable cause existed in the case which is expected to be presented before an Adams County grand jury.
Ebeling was arrested Dec. 7 in West Union. According to a complaint filed Dec. 10 in Adams County Court, Ebeling conspired to “promote or facilitate” murder on or about Dec. 6.
The complaint is signed by Harry Bowman, Adams County Sheriff’s chief deputy.
Adams County Sheriff’s Detective Jeff McCarty said the office has worked on the investigation for about two weeks.
He said Ebeling’s alleged target was another Adams County resident who was described as a sheriff’s office informant with information that “could send some of her friends to prison.”
No one has died in connection with the alleged conspiracy.
Ebeling is being held in the Adams County Jail on a $250,000 bond for the first-degree felony charge.
