Dear editor,

It is very rare that at election time we have the opportunity to vote for a candidate that possesses all of the attributes that qualify them for the office they are seeking.

I consider it an honor to wholeheartedly endorse Lisa Kern-Yeary for the office of Mason County jailer. Mrs Yeary far exceeds the experience, training, education and hands-on operation of the day-to-day duties necessary of the jailer.

Mrs. Yeary by nature and her upbringing believes in providing the best to those under her care while also being firm and fair. Mrs Yeary’s past 19 months performing the duties as jailer has been unblemished.

Mrs. Yeary has made vast improvements at the jail in her relatively short time as jailer. Most of those have been addressed in earlier letters or on her Facebook page. I will mention some of the more notable:

—Medical coverage by medical staff has increased from five to seven days a week while saving the county money.

—The employees’ training far exceeds that required by statute.

—Vastly improved security measures that will meet the needs of the facility for the next 15 years, with no cost to the taxpayers of Mason County.

—The full body scanner, first of its kind in the state of Kentucky. This will help with the safety of both employees and inmates, again, with no cost to the taxpayers of Mason County.

—Significant pay raises for employees as well as establishing an internal affairs unit.

Mrs. Yeary also serves on several local and state organizations and was recently elected to the board of directors with the Kentucky Jailers Association by her peers. This is very impressive, as it normally takes years to achieve this status.

I again fully endorse Lisa Kern-Yeary as your jailer, and ask that you please exercise your right to vote, as that is the only way a candidate can be elected.

May God bless all pf you and may God bless America.

Respectfully,

Tony Wenz

Former sheriff of Mason County
