Beginning the afternoon of Wednesday, April 25, the Mason County Conservation District will have tree seedlings available, for a limited time, for their annual tree giveaway.
The trees were purchased by the district using funds provided by Mitsubishi Electric Automotive America in Maysville. Species available include redbud, pawpaw, flowering dogwood, white and Virginia pine, persimmon, black walnut, pin oak and hazelnut.
Around 1,100 trees were purchased from the Kentucky Division of Forestry, and the division matched the purchase with 550 white pine at no cost. The trees will be packaged with the assistance of agriculture students at Mason County High School, and employees of Mitsubishi Electric.
White pines are provided first to fifth grade students throughout Mason County, and then all trees will be made available to the general public on a first-come, first-serve basis.
Anticipated distribution sites are the District’s office at 1925 Old Main Street in Washington, the Maysville Branch of Southern States, May’s Lick Hinton Mill and the Mason County Extension Service office.
All varieties may not be available at each location and supplies may be limited.
Contact the District for information at (606)-759-5570.
