The Music Department of the Mason County Schools will present the Annual Spring Musical featuring Disney and Alan Menken’s The Little Mermaid, The Broadway Musical, on April 20, 21 and 22, at the Downtown High School Auditorium.
The musical production is produced and presented by the Concert Choir and Orchestra under the direction of Charlie Hunter, conductor and Lindsay Spangler, dramatic director with Deborah Booher and Tammy Conrad musical accompanist and Sallie McNeill, and Amanda Jolley drama coaches. Christian Kalb and Olivia O’Hearn serve as the student accompanists with Sean Jackson, serving as the production coordinator. The special program will feature over 115 Mason County High School students along with nearly 50 Elementary and Middle School orchestra students in a wide range of roles and activities from the cast, chorus, orchestra, set and stage crews, production design teams and production staff members.
The Mason County production is presented by arrangement with Music Theatre International, New York, New York. The show is presented in part by the annual support of the Bank of Maysville. The accompaniment for the production will be presented by the Mason County Orchestra under the direction of Charlie Hunter with solo accompaniment by Deborah Booher and Tammy Conrad.
The role of Ariel will be played by senior soprano, Marissa Scilley. She is featured in numerous vocal selections including familiar musical selections of Part of Your World and My Wildest Dreams. Senior, Bryan Walton will play the role of Prince Eric, and is featured on the vocal selection, Her Voice. The part of King Triton will be presented by Dalton Perkins with Carson Rolph featured in the role of Grimsby. Junior, Madelyn McElfresh will play the role of Sebastian, and is featured on Under the Sea and Kiss the Girl. Seniors, Sammi Ross and Samantha Stricklett will play the roles of Flounder and Scuttle. Flounder and Scuttle will be featured in several vocal numbers including She’s in Love, Positoovity, and Kiss the Girl.
Junior, Hannah Wright will present the role of Ursula along with Meredith Hartman and Payton Flora as Flotsam and Jetsam. Ursula and the Eels will be featured in Daddy’s Little Angel, and Poor Unfortunate Souls.
Mersisters will be played by Nadia McGrannahan, Tessa Gray, Taylor Sexton, Taylor Lippert, and Sarah Bravard. Mersisters will be featured on Daughters of Triton and She’s in Love. Chef Louis will be played by Rachel Payne and is featured during the selection Les Poissions. Windward and Leeward will be played by Connor Brown and Drew Wood. Principal dance roles feature Rachel Payne, Haley May, Hayley Cottom, Kennedy Graham, Grace Honigman. The feature dance selections for the show will be Daughters of Triton, She’s in Love, Under the Sea, and Positoovity.
The Choir and Orchestra students sing in numerous special scenes including the under the sea scenes singing in the production numbers, Daughters of Triton, Under the Sea and The Finale. The children roles for the under the sea scenes will be presented by Orchestra students from Straub Elementary, Mason County Intermediate School, and Mason County Middle Schools.
Bedouin Dennison is the make-up coordinator with Merle Norman Gold Medallion Studio serving as the sponsor of the musical make-up for the cast and chorus. Carol Brown, serves as rehearsal accompanist and costume coordinator. Mason County faculty members Sean Jackson, Lindsay Spangler, Amanda Jolley, Amy Lambert, and Stephanie Martinez are serving as production coordinators. Assisting with the production include: James Ruark, Fred Hester, Chrissy Hunter Nancy Hunter, Betty Hester, Kortney Mills, and Katie Hunter.
Kaleigh Zeigler, is the student production design coordinator. Technical services for the production will be coordinated by students: Madison Stewart, Janson Biddle, Drew Denham, Brayden Porter, Nicholas Bramel, Dylan Grant, Aydan Linville, Trevor Lawrence, and Ethan Holton.
The spring musical will be presented on Friday April 20, Saturday April 21 at 7:30 p.m., and Sunday April 22, at 2:15 p.m., in the high school auditorium, E. Second Street, downtown Maysville. Tickets for The Little Mermaid performances are $15.00 and available at the door or in advance at the auditorium box office. Reserved tickets will be on sale Thursday April 19, from 5:30 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., and one hour prior to each performance.
