FLEMINGSBURG – Contractors for the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet will begin a $1.2 million project this month to replace the aging Davis Lane bridge over the North Fork of the Licking River in Mason County, state officials said Thursday.

The current bridge, an old steel truss bridge that was recently closed as a public safety precaution due to advanced deterioration, will be replaced by a more modern concrete beam bridge that will provide service to motorists for decades to come, according to Kentucky Transportation Cabinet spokesperson Allen Blair.

Contractors will move equipment in this month and begin preparing the construction site. Removing the old bridge and building the new one will follow. The new bridge should open in July barring any weather or other issues.

Until the new bridge opens, all thru traffic on Davis Lane remains detoured using Kentucky 1237 (Bridgeport Road), Kentucky 1234 (Mount Carmel Road), Polecat Pike and Dixon Pike.

Work is being done by Walker Construction and Materials LLC under a $1,172,988.90 low-bid contract awarded by the Transportation Cabinet. The contractor has 67 working days to complete the project.
