WEST UNION, Ohio — An Adams County resident has taken it upon himself to help the less fortunate, four-legged occupants at the Adams County Dog and Kennel Department this year.

In what Will Lovejoy has named a “Holiday Drive,” he is using the benevolent spirit of the season to try and bestow a little festive happiness to the lives of dogs that may not have otherwise received it.

“They have no voice,” said Alyse Lovejoy-Pettit, a volunteer at the kennel and creator of the Adams County Kennel Club, whose main goal at the moment is to support the ACDKD.

“So often people in our area abandon dogs and they end up coming into the kennel, picked up starving, in poor condition,” she said, and unfortunately, the county has very limited funding for the kennel.

Will Lovejoy, her son, said the ACKC gives them the mechanism needed to take action when they see animals in need. He says the dogs at the ACDKD appeared to need the most support. Winter months are especially hard on them.

Over the past year, the ACKC has helped the Adams County Dog and Kennel Department a lot with new covered kennels, vet care bills, food and cleaning supplies, but Lovejoy says that kennels are just too saturated with animals more often than not.

“That means an uptick in food demand, cleaning supplies and other supporting items. This is a large burden for any animal facility to support; as a result, the ACKC Holiday Drive is in place to aid this effort,” said Lovejoy. He also said he knows a lot of people want to help, too, but they just don’t know how to connect to make it happen.

“I’m simply trying to make it easy. The Facebook Fundraiser was a good kick start for us. As you saw on the Holiday Drive Flyer, we will continue to “blast” for support through the holiday season,” he said.

People can donate funds through the Facebook event “ACKC fundraiser for Adams County Kennel Club,” their Paypal, paypal.me/ACKCPAYPAW, or donate gifts to Adams County Kennel Club, 910 Rigdon Road, West Union, Ohio 45693.
