Kentuckians will go to the polls Tuesday with the race for the governor’s office topping the ballot.

Polls open at 6 a.m. across the commonweath in both the Eastern and Central time zones and will close at 6 p.m.

Voters who are unsure of their polling location or need other information should contact their county clerk or check out GoVoteKY.com.

Only about three of every 10 registered voters in Kentucky are expected to visit the poll Tuesday to elect Kentucky’s governor for the next four years, Secretary of State Alison Lundergan Grimes said recently.

Grimes officially projected about 31 percent of the 3,451,537 million people registered to vote in Kentucky will cast a ballot on Election Day.

That’s slightly above the 30.7 percent voter turnout in the 2015 general election.

Republican Gov. Matt Bevin is seeking another four-year term while Attorney General Andy Beshear, a Democrat, hopes voters give him the office.

Augusta and Maysville native Heather French Henry is running on the Democratic ticket for the office of secretary of state.

Also on the ballot are elections for attorney general, auditor, treasurer and agriculture commissioner. The nominees for lieutenant governor are slated with the gubernatorial nominees.

Area voters will fund few local races although there are three candidates but have filed as write-ins for the Augusta City Council, after a council member’s seat became available when he moved out of the city.

Those candidates include incumbent Rolland Tongret, Joe Goecke and Joshua White.

In Brooksville, Tim Boyd has filed for a vacant seat on the city council.

According to Bracken County Clerk Rae Jean Poe, if voters need to see a list of write-in candidates, they can request it at the precinct. However, candidate names will not be visible at the voting booths.

“We can’t hang up a list of names,” Poe said. “But, if someone requests the list, we can show it to them.”

The Lewis County Circuit Clerk position will also appear on the November ballot. Incumbent Teresa Callahan is the only candidate who has filed for the position.
