AUGUSTA — Officials with Augusta Independent School are investigating a threatening comment made by a student on Wednesday.

According to a Facebook post by the district, a student allegedly made a threatening comment toward another student on Wednesday and it was immediately reported to school officials.

“A full investigation was conducted to ensure the safety and security of the students and staff,” officials with the district said.

According to officials, disciplinary action per board policy was taken and the threat was reported to local law enforcement.

“Details of actions being taken are confidential and cannot be disclosed,” officials said.

AIS Superintendent Lisa McCane said she was grateful for the student who reported the threat and that all threats, whether real or a joke, will be treated the same.

“We commend the students who reported the incident quickly to school officials,” she said. “If a serious threat exists, that could be the difference in losing or saving lives. In today’s world, students need to understand threats out of anger or jokingly are treated the same as threats with a plan, because we have no way of knowing the difference. School safety measures supersedes all duties when it comes to protecting our students and staff.”

McCane said school will be in session on Thursday.

“The necessary safety precautions have been taken and we will have school on Thursday,” she said.
