FLEMINGSBURG — Motorists can expect closures on two Fleming County bridges this week as construction begins to repair the structures.

Contractors closed the Nepton Road (Kentucky 367) bridge over Johnson Creek on May 20, west of Baptist Lane in Nepton, to replace the superstructure and rebuild the bridge. The bridge is expected to remain closed for up to 60 calendar days, according to Allen Blair, spokesperson with the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet.

Thru traffic may detour using Kentucky 170, Kentucky 161 (Shanklin Road) and Kentucky 888 (Buffalo Trace Road).

On Tuesday or Wednesday, May 21-22, Blairn said contractors will close the second bridge, the Stockyard Road (Kentucky 2508) bridge over Town Branch in Flemingsburg, for a superstructure replacement and rebuild.

The bridge will remain closed 45 to 60 calendar days. Detours can be made via West Water Street.

The work is being done by M&M Services Co., Inc., under a $2,688,780.76 Transportation Cabinet contract for six bridge rehabs through the state’s Bridging Kentucky Program.

Bridging Kentucky is a statewide program that plans to rehabilitate or replace more than 1,000 bridges throughout the state.

The initiative plans to, over a six year period, “reopen closed bridges, remove weight restrictions that prevent use by school buses, emergency vehicles and businesses and improve access and mobility for all Kentuckians,” according to Kentucky Gov. Matt Bevin.

The KYTC goes on to say this program is one of the most aggressive bridge rehabilitation and replacement programs in the nation.

Over the first two years alone, the Bridging Kentucky team will begin working on nearly 400 bridges, officials said.
