Hospice of Hope recently added a Blessing Box at its Maysville office location to help curb hunger issues locally.
According to the USDA, about 12 percent of Americans were “food insecure” in 2017, representing about 15 million households. Additionally, according to Feeding America, Kentucky has more than 600,000 people that struggle with hunger with more than one in five of those being children.
Stephanie Hopper, director of Clinical Services for Hospice of Hope said, “We have been using the tagline ‘Hospice.Helps.Everyone.’ for a few years and adding a blessing box fits this perfectly. Our staff feels a sense of pride knowing that they are helping the community fight hunger issues.”
A Blessing Box is a small structure where people leave donated goods — such as non-perishable food items and toiletries — for others to pick-up anonymously. It is located in a common area, and discreet enough that anyone can stop by at any point throughout the day or night to take what they need.
The Hospice of Hope Blessing Box was constructed by members of the Maysville Fire Department and is located at 909 Kenton Station Way.
